Soeripto (Lembaga Penelitian Veteriner, Bogor (Indonesia))
About 117 Tegal ducks sera from 4 areas of West Java and 2 areas of Central Java, Indonesia were tested against Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) antigen using rapid serum agglutination test. It was found that 17.4 pct., 7.7 pct., and 4.1 pct. of the duck sera from Indramayu, Sumedang, and Cirebon areas respectively were seropositive against MG antigen. None of the sera from Karawang of West Java, Tegal, and Semarang of Central Java were positive. In a separate occasion, tracheal swabs from some Tegal ducks that died from Pasteurella, Salmonella and E. coli experiment at RIVS (Research Institute for Veterinary Sciences) were examined for the presence of Mycoplasma. From a Tegal duck that died due to pasteurellosis was found some mycoplasma colonies. The colonies were identified using biochemical tests and were found to be a MG strain. When the MG cultures were injected into intra-abdominal airsacs of chickens, they were found to be mild pathogenic. As far as the author is concerned, this information has never been reported in Indonesia.
