Heritability of teat number in rabbits

English. Investigations were carried out on 4693 NZW and 2336 Californian new-born rabbits from 612 and 284 matings for the heritability of the teat number. It was proved by the distribution of teats from various mating combinations and by the average number of teats that the trait: number of teats has a high heritability. Had the parents 8 teats the percentage of the new-born rabbits with 7,8,9 and 10 teats amounted to 0.1, 71.0, 22.8 and 6.0% for NZW and 0.0, 47,8, 34.0 and 18.2% for Californian resp. Had the parents 10 teats the percentage of the new-born rabbits with 8,9,10 and 11 teats amounted to 25.2, 35.1, 39.5 and 0.2% for NZW and 13.8, 29.6, 56.6 and 0.0% for Californian resp. From the results it may be concluded that the selection carried out on the basis of teats may be quick and effective

Italian. Sono state eseguite, su 4693 conigli di razza BNZ e 2336 Californiani appena nati, da 612 e 284 accoppiamenti rispettivamente, ricerche per studiare l'ereditabilita' del numero di capezzoli. E' stato provato, attraverso la distribuzione di capezzoli con le diverse combinazioni di accoppiamento ed il numero medio di questi, che il carattere "n. di capezzoli" ha una elevata ereditabilita'. Da genitori con 8 capezzoli la percentuale di neonati con 7, 8, 9 e 10 capezzoli e' stata di 0,1, 71,0, 22,8 e 6,0% per BNZ e 0,0, 47,8, 34,0 e 18,2% per Californiani. Da genitori con 10 capezzoli la percentuale di conigli che ne hanno, alla nascita, 8, 9, 10 e 11 e' stata di 25,2, 35,1, 39,5 e 0,2% per BNZ e 13,8, 29,6, 56,6 e 0,0% per Californiani. Dai risultati si puo' concludere che la selezione sulla base dei capezzoli puo' essere veloce ed efficace
