Does the method of planting Sweet potato vines effect tuber yield?
1992
Levett, M.P. | Osi'lis, P.
On flat alluvial soils in the dry season, sweet potato yields were not affected by orientation of cuttings (vertical or horizontal) at planting or by number of nodes placed in the soil. The results do not reflect the suggestion that horizontal planting of vines is a better method. The spacings were: 25cm. by 109cm. or 132cm. The number of tubers produced per sq. km. can be increased by two cuttings per planting point instead of one. For the two cultivars tested at the station, yield increases between 108 DAP and 133 DAP were small especially for L22 (less than 5 per cent.). An earlier harvest (at 108 DAP) should be preferred
