Why grow pineapples?
1994
Rogers, A.F. | Levett, M.P. (Department of Agriculture and Livestock)
Pineapples are considered to be a food crop for farmers with good consumer awareness. Seasonabilty is an acute problem. By using a flower inducing hormone farmers can deliver fruit to the market in periods of high prices. There are good profit margins and for farmers capable of supplying pineapples all year round there is good scope for negotiating long term contracts with retailers as well as supply fruit for juice.
