The weather factor and the availability of capital are important elements in the decision making process of farmers. Farmer decisions tend to be more diversified when the size of the farm is small and the weather more variable. Barley is hardy, multi-functional and more vigorous than other cereals and therefore well adapted to these climatic variations. It is able to play an essential role in marginal zones as both a forage and cereal resource. The farmer facing more or less adverse climatic conditions according to the rainfall regime has to be flexible in adapting his cultural practices so as to minimize failures. We propose to examine whether the annual weather differences have determined the choice of a particular practice during a dry and a wet year and the consequences on yield
