English. An underdeveloped source of possible insecticides is the numerous secondary metabolites that plants produce as the result of coevolution with insect herbivore species. In this paper, examples of plant compounds with potential in insect control are discussed by their action on target organisms, i.e. antifeedants, repellents and oviposition deterrents, attractants, phytoecdysones, plant-produced juvenile hormone mimics and anti-hormones, chemicals affecting insect reproduction and behaviour and acutely toxic compounds

Una fonte sottoutilizzata di potenziali insetticidi e' rappresentata dai numerosi metaboliti secondari che le piante producono, come risultato del processo di coevoluzione con gli insetti fitofagi. In questo lavoro e' proposta una panoramica delle sostanze vegetali che hanno dimostrato di poter essere prese in considerazione nella lotta contro gli insetti. Esse sono state suddivise in base all'attivita' esplicata contro le specie nocive: fagodeterrenti, repellenti e antiovideponenti, attrattivi, sostanze ad azione ormonale e antiormonale, agenti sulla riproduzione e il comportamento e infine dotate di tossicita' acuta
