The impact of the 1988 Australia New Zealand Closer Economic Relations (CER) Agreement is assessed for some New South Wales agricultural industries, in particular, the effects on the dairy, fruit and fruit products and prime lamb industries. At present, few tariffs and quantitative restrictions are imposed on the trading of agricultural products across the Tasman. The industries which have restrictions imposed are covered by specific industry plans. These plans are either a formal attachment to the CER agreement, such as the Memorandum of Understanding for the dairy industry and the wine industry agreement, or informal agreements such as the prime lamb industry agreement. Issues relevant to CER'S effect on fruit and prime lamb industries are outlined, and the dairy industry is examined. The Memorandum of Understanding on dairy products is included.
