Between October 1987 and September 1988 a mud crab fishery investigation was undertaken in the Northern Territory, on behalf of Primary Industry and Fisheries. The mud crab fishery has recently developed from a minor fishery to the Northern Territory's most valuable inshore fishery after barrumundi. The major objectives of the project have all been accomplished. These included reporting on: trends in the catch; mortality rates; marketing procedures; effects of interstate legislation; proportion of post-moult crabs in the catch; and factors bearing upon the management of the fishery.
