Acaricide resistance in Queensland, March, 1988 [cattle; Boophilus microplus]
1989
Reid, T.J. (Queensland Dept. of Primary Industries, Ipswich (Australia). Veterinary Services Branch)
The history and development of resistance in cattle ticks (Boophilus microplus) to chemicals used for tick control in Queensland is reviewed. Each known strain of resistant tick is detailed and the distribution, incidence, mechanisms, development, diagnosis and control of acaricide resistance are discussed. It is concluded that acaricide resistance is a continuing major problem for the cattle industry in Queensland and that the reliance on chemicals for tick control needs to be reduced as much as possible.
