A review of the CALM [Conservation and Land Management] draft management plan of the Yanchep National Park and proposed extension [beekeeping; Western Australia]
1988
Burking, R.C. | Kessell, A.C. (Western Australian Dept. of Agriculture, Perth. Apiculture Branch)
The Yanchep National Park and the proposed addition of adjacent areas of State Forest are important colony wintering and spring production areas for five commercial beekeepers, and Field Day Areas for the Western Australian Apiarists Society and the Department of Agriculture Queen Bee Breeding Research Programme. Proposals in the Draft Management Plan for the National Park indicate that existing registered sites could be lost to both industry and research. The Management Plan proposes relocation of beekeeping areas based on assumed evidence of the "detrimental effects" of honeybees on native fauna and flora. The proposals are discussed and recommendations are made for the continued use of the area by the Beekeeping Industry in Western Australia.
