The set of 170 domestic and foreign barley varieties was analyzed through the electrophoretic analysis of hordeins in starch gel. Testing of proportions of pure hordein lines in different subsets testifies high homogeneity of Czech restringed varieties of spring barley and foreign varieties of two-rowed winter barley and the low homogenity of multi-rowed advance lines and winter barley varieties. The lower degree of hordein polymorphism has an adverse effect on identification of varieties and advance lines. However, through the electrophoretic analysis of hordeins it is possible, with some exceptions, to distinguish varieties and advanced lines of spring and winter types by analysis in seed samples.
