Crossbreeding with terminal sires. [Videorecording]
1993
Anon.
Shows the benefits to be gained by using terminal sires of specific breeds to produce progeny to meet particular beef markets. The results of particular selection strategies used by producers for different pasture availability and market targets are shown. Detailed results of a breeding program at the Grafton Research Centre using different sires and raising progeny on different pastures are shown, giving birthweight, weight gain and meat quality comparisons for all the progeny. The need for producers to set breeding objectives, target particular markets, assess pasture conditions, recognise the strengths and weaknesses of each breed, use good bulls and good maternal breeds, is stressed. The program is presented by Brian Sundstrom, Cattle Breeding Co-ordinator with New South Wales Agriculture at Armidale.
