Bovine serum (BS) containing 24 mg IgG per mL was fed to groups of calves. Other groups were fed a low fat fortified colostrum powder (FCP) processed from the pooled first 6 milkings of unsuckled cows. Both FCP and BS were good colostral substitutes when fed to calves at appropriate dose rates. FCP could be stored without refrigeration, dissolved readily in water, and 300 g provided calves with an adequate concentration of IgG in their serum after feeding.
