Nine thousand livers were obtained from 10 meatworks in South Australia for a survey of trace element levels of cattle. Vitamin B12 was also assayed, and the relationship between it and cobalt studied by regression analysis. There is a relationship between liver cobalt and vitamin B12 in cattle, but extensive scatter in the relationship means that it is unlikely to be of clinical use. Similar results have been obtained elsewhere in sheep.
