ELISAs measuring serum antibodies to type C and D botulinum toxins were developed and tested on a herd of Brahman-cross heifers on a cattle station where deaths had been tentatively attributed to botulism. The ELISAs were able to detect antibodies to toxin from natural exposure in unvaccinated animals, and may increase the accuracy of botulism diagnosis.
