The taxa recognised within the Puccinia recondita complex not only differ in mycelial morphology but also in nuclear DNA content of the urediniospores. The results not only indicate that the nuclear DNA content of urediniospores can be a tool for rust taxonomy, but also that it would be more realistic to treat the leaf rusts of Triticum, Secale and Bromus sterilis as separate species.
