More effective chemical control measures against pests of bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in Cuba

Investigations about the control of insect pests in bean fields (Phaseolus vulgaris) have shown that the efficiency of control measures depends more on the application time than on the number of sprayings. A lower attack by Empoasca kraemeri up to 15 individuals/100 leaflets can be tolerated without yield losses. In case of higher attacks by E. kraemeri, diminutions of the population maximum by 10 individuals after control measures increased seed yields by approximately 1%. In dependence on the population density of the pests insecticide spraying can be limited to 2-4 justified applications. They have to be oriented on the presence of the following insect pests: 1. Bemisia tabaci (Immigrants), 2. Empoasca kraemeri (1. Generation), 3. E. kraemeri (2. Generation), 4. B. tabaci, Diabrotica balteata, Andrector ruficornis (Eclosion of the new generation)
