Management in the New South Wales S.E. [south east] forests - the role of soil and water conservation research
1990
Turner, J. (New South Wales Forestry Commission (Australia). Wood Technology and Forest Research Div.)
Forests of the Eden Region are being managed for a wide variety of purposes including integrated harvesting. Research into soils and water is critical to determine potential effects of management, and to formulate appropriate operational procedures. The research is both of a long term and diverse nature, requiring cooperation from a number of organisations. Many of the soils in the area are highly erodible but there is little measured effect of harvesting on runoff water quality and quantity of soil movement. This is due to a high level of planning, use of well trained operators, protection of sensitive areas and very rapid vegetation regeneration after disturbance.
