Report on the threat of clubroot to the Manjimup export crucifer industry
1994
Porter, I. (Victorian Dept. of Agriculture, Knoxfield (Australia). Inst. for Horticultural Development)
A visit was made to the Manjimup crucifer growing area to determine the extent of the existing clubroot problem, the possible short term strategies for reducing the spread of the disease and the need for future research. The disease is spreading rapidly and if unchecked could severely threaten the viability of exporting crucifers from the region. Strict hygiene practices are needed, and a high priority for research is to develop a method that guarantees that bulb bins can be routinely sterilised to prevent spread of the disease. A nationally coordinated approach to control should be developed.
