The ram-effect: is isolation required? [sheep; review]
1988
Pearce, G.P. (Western Australia Univ., Nedlands. School of Agriculture)
The evidence suggests that pre-conditioning of anoestrous ewes by a period of isolation from rams may not be necessary if novel, previously unknown rams are used to induce ovulation in the ram-effect at joining. Separation of ewes from rams by a fence may be all that is required to avoid stimulating oestrous cyclicity inadvertently if the ewes are recently weaned or of the less responsive breeds.
