Least-cost options for grain transport for wheat growers in Victoria
1989
Gross, R. (Victorian Dept. of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (Australia). Economics Branch)
Of the 4 options examined, a private contractor delivering direct to port would be the most profitable for all Victorian wheatgrowers, regardless of tonnage produced and distance from port. Deregulation to allow the use of private contractors would save growers about 7.10 dollars per tonne. If all other costs remained constant, a saving to Victorian growers of 23.5 million dollars per year could be achieved.
