The effect of green manure on mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) seedlings was studied during November 1989 until April 1990 in the nursery of experimental garden of Forest Research and Development Centre in Bogor. To investigate the effect of treatment, a randomized complete design and the analysis of variance were used. The Honest Significant Difference Test (HSD)/Turkey was used for further analysis. Tree varieties of green manure, those are Leucaena, Calliandra and Flemingia leaves; and four level of dosage (0; 25; 50 and 75 g/seedlings) were used. Height and diameter growth and dry weight were recorded as request from bumpers old seedlings samples from each plot. The result showed that varieties of the green manure did not significantly affect the height and diameter growth and the dry weight of mahogany seedlings, but dosages were highly significant and affected the height and diameter growth and dry weight. Based on the above results, the use of 75 g green manure on each seedling is recommended.
