Effect of fall growth and development on winter hardiness in barley
1993
Adak, M.S. | Eser, D. (Ankara Univ. (Turkey). Faculty of Agriculture)
In a study to determine the relationship among some morphological and physiological characters measured during the fall, and the relationship between these characters and the cold hardiness of barley, six released two-rowed barley (Hordeum vulgare L. ssp. vulgare) cultivars were grown under field conditions in the 1988-90 seasons. Observations were made on different traits including crown fresh weight, dry weight, water content, crown depth, root length, and number of roots, tillers and leaves. Years and cultivars had a significant influence on most of these variables. Positive and significant relations were found between cold hardiness and crown depth, root length, dry crown weight and number of tillers. Cold hardiness was negatively associated with seedling height and crown water content
