Effect of emergence date on seed production and seed germinability in Thlaspi arvense
1994

We studied how the date of seedling emergence of Thlaspi arvense L. affects seed production and germinability of the seeds produced. On five occasions at two weeks intervals from mid-May to mid-July, five similar-sized seedlings were transplanted into pots and grown outdoors. The number of seeds produced decreased the later the emergence, and the last emerging cohort produced no seeds at all. This suggests a strong selection towards an early germination date. Seeds produced in late summer had a lower geminability than those produced early.
