The workshop generated a total of 132 ideas which were reduced to a final listing of 22 items for consideration by all participants. the final ranking of these 22 items showed that the top five priority areas for research were: (i) waste management control to reduce the deleterious effects of effluent; (ii) welfare in piggeries, transit and lairage; (iii) risk factors associated with disease; (iv) low cost semi-intensive housing for growers and sows; and (v) factors affecting voluntary feed intake.
