Counting seeds in drills
1996
Feldhaus, B. (Kiel Univ. (Germany). Inst. fuer landwirtschaftliche Verfahrenstechnik)
Till now grain is planted in the unit 'kilogram per hectare'. The adjustment of the drill is done by stationary calibration. The desired seed rate is adjusted once for the total field. Because bulk density as well as wheel slip vary, the common volume dosage cannot ensure a constant seed rate. The problems can be solved, if, with a suitable sensor technology and an intelligent data processing during operation, the number of planted seeds is displayed and the tools for seed apportioning can accordingly be adjusted manually or automatically. A respective technology is available for spaced seed drills.
