The interest in direct seeding methods has increased in the last years and also the offers for direct seeding machines. Machines with tearing tools for seed placement and with rolling disc coulters can be differentiated. Direct seeding of winter rape is problematic with long, insufficiently chopped and unequally distributed straw. Direct seeding tests demonstrate how fragmentary and thin crops can be avoided through purposeful straw management.
