Effect of phosphorous on the interaction of vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi with Meloidogyne incognita on copwea [Vigna unguiculata]

A pot experiment was conducted to study the effect of different levels of phosphorous (0.50 and 100 microg/g soil) against the root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita, VAM fungi and the nematode and fungal interaction. All the differences among the growth parameters of copwea at different phosphorous levels were significant. Plants with VAM were more resistant to M. incognita than those without. Plants treated with phosphorous resulted in increased total phosphorous content. Positive correlation was observed between the phosphorous levels and the nematode population, whereas negative correlation occurred between phosphorous levels and the VAM spore population and colonization

[E' stato condotto un esperimento in vaso per studiare l'effetto di differenti livelli di fosoforo (0, 50 e 100 microg/g di terreno) nei confronti del nematode galligeno Meloidogyne incognita, dei funghi VAM e dell'interazione nematodi-funghi. Tutte le differenze fra i parametri di crescita del fagiolino dall'occhio ai differenti livelli di fosforo risultavano significative. Le piante con i funghi VAM erano piu' resistenti a M. incognita rispetto a quelle senza. Le piante trattate con fosforo presentavano maggiori contenuti di fosforo totale. E' stata osservata una correlazione positiva fra i livelli di fosforo e la popolazione del nematode, mentre si riscontrava una correlazione negativa fra i livelli di fosforo e la popolazione di spore e la colonizzazione dei funghi VAM]
