Bacterial wilt (Pseudomonas solanacearum) is one of the most destructive diseases of potato in the hills of Nepal. An effort has been initiated to manage the disease in the traditional upland potato growing areas of Western Hills with community participation. This involved elimination of infected planting materials from the villages, seed multiplication in isolated disease free area, adoption of three-year rotation with non-host crops and to eradicate infected volunteer potato plants. All of these activities were managed through farmer committees.
