A total of four toria (Brassica campestris) trials were carried out during the 1992/93 winter season at PAC and its command area. One of those was conducted at on-farm sites. The toria varieties ACC no. 83/3, Vikash and PT-30 performaed well in coordinated varietal trials (CVT). In farmers' field trials (FFT), Vikash, Toria-7 and CHLS were better than others. In case of observation nursery on Brassica spp, the varieties HC-5, HC-2 and HC-4 were the three top yielders. In date of planting trial, Vikash planted on 15 and 30 September produced very high yield of 3336 kg/ha and 3194 kg/ha, respectively. The treatment planted on 14 December did not produce pods. Informal Research kits on toria of Vikash, Lumle Local, PT-507-B, SALS, PT-30 and collection no. 11 varieties were distributed to five Koshi and Mechi hill districts. About 50 per cent response cards were received. Most of the farmers preferred Vikash and PT-507-B varieties. A total of 162 toria minikits were distributed to seven Koshi and Mechi hill districts. About 47 per cent response cards were received. The majority of the farmers preferred improved varieties over their locals for higher grain yield.
