Convention on biological diversity and its significance for conservation of minor tree species
1995
Beltram, G. (Ljubljana Univ. (Slovenia). Biotechnical Fac., Forestry Dept.)
The Convention on Biological Diversity is briefly outlined in this contribution. International documents which are referred to include basic principles and measures for conservation and sustainable use of forest ecosystems. Additionally, forest functions which do not advocate timber production are stressed. In this context the conservation of minority tree species has a significant role for safeguarding biological diversity in natural forests. Although the main function of the minority tree species is not of immediate commercial value, they can contribute to preserving the genetic resource.
