Report on national census of agriculture and livestock (1990 - 1991) Vol. IV: Livestock characteristics

The report presents data based on a profitability sample while the data collection method was objective counting. The data is for 26 districts. The districts of Gulu, Kitgum, Kotido, Kumi, Moroto and Soroti were not covered, these represent about 115 of the rural population. Kampala was also excluded. Data from the 1992/93 follow-up annual agriculture and livestock survey covering 37 districts should bridge the gap. The results show that in the 26 districts representing 1.7 million of holding estimated there were about 3.4 million heads of cattle, 3.9m goats, 743.603 sheep, 671,712 pigs, 114,421,210 chicken, 186050 rabbits, 12443 donkeys, 108998 turkeys, 730,449 ducks, geese and other birds were 282,263, 33,956 bee hives and there were a total of 6,737 fish ponds
