This brief paper introduces the Forest Dept. and highlights its efforts in protecting the forest genetic resources. It is acknowledged that the resources are being degraded very fast due to ever increasing human demands. Lack of awareness, shortage of trained personnel, limited budget and preference of the exotic trees over local ones are listed as the major constraints to advancement of forest genetic resources conservation. Consequently recommenadtions are proposed
