Results of research on bark necrosis damage to beech are presented for the growth stage of advance regeneration of five locations of Central Slovakia. High per cent of damage was determined in the conditions of beechwoods within the commercial forest. The frequency of damage on research plots with stocking 0.7-0.8 ranged from 47 to 54 %. A trend of decreasing damage was observed on research plots with different stocking (0; 0.3; 0.5; 0.7; 0.9), from clearcut (97 %) to the highest stocking (35 %). The authors present photographs of necrotic lesions as well as photographs of detailed views of necroses and mycelia of parasitic fungi obtained under scanning electron microscope.
