Species diversity and biomass of ichthyocenoses in streams of the Krivoklatsko protected landscape area [Czech Republic]

The number of fish species and their biomass were evaluated in a total of 49 sites in 1993-1994 in the Krivoklatsko protected landscape area (Czech Republic). The results of multivariate regression analysis show that the number of species is significantly affected by the relative biomass of brown trout and by the number of fished sections. A distance from the source of the stream is also at the level of significance. The correlation ratio is 0.961. F-test value is also statistically significant (19.38). It suggests that the relation between the species number and the parameters studied is usable to predict a species number in the stream up to 50 km from the source of the stream. Nitrate and Chloride concentrations affected the number of species only slightly.
