The European Regional Conference for the preparation of the 4th International Technical Conference of FAO on plant genetic resources 1996 in Leipzig took place in Nitra, Slovakia from 24 to 27 September 1995. It was attended by representatives of 35 countries, the European Union, some NGOs, FAO and IPGRI.The main objective of the conference in Nitra was the preparation of proposals for the two key elements of the Leipzig Conference; namely the State of the World Report and the Global Plan of Action for the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources. The results are listed below according to general principles and recommendations at national, subregional, regional and international level

Internationalen Technischen Konferenz der FAO ueber pflanzengenetische Ressourcen, die 1996 in Leipzig durchgefuehrt werden soll, statt. Vertreter von 35 europaeischen Staaten, der Europaeischen Union, einiger Nichtregierungsorganisationen, der FAO und des IP- IPGRI nahmen daran teil. Ziel der Konferenz war es, Vorschlaege fuer die beiden zentralen Elemente der Leipziger Konferenz zu erarbeiten, naemlich fuer den Weltzustandsbericht und Weltaktionsplan fuer die Erhaltung und nachhaltige Nutzung pflanzengenetischer Ressourcen. Die Ergebnisse werden nachfolgend gegliedert in allgemeine Prinzipien und Empfehlungen auf nationaler, subregionaler, regionaler und internationaler Ebene
