[Testicular characteristics of Aceh (Indonesia) local cattle]
1990
Salim, B.
One hundred and thirty five bulls were used to provide information on testicular characteristics of Aceh local cattle. The animals were selected from three locations (Pidie, Aceh Utara, and Aceh Timur) on the basis of weight, age and physical conditions. From each location fourty five bulls were used as samples which were further divided into three age groups 2.0 to 3.0, 3.5 to 4.5 and 5.0 to 6.0 years with equal number (N=15) in each group. The scrotal characteristics were determined in two ways, the in situ measurement on the scrotum of living animals, and direct measurement on excised testicles taken after the animals were slaughtered. The in situ data and other measurements were analyzed utilizing two factor-factorial design and simple regression methods. All data on the testicular measurements, body weight, epididymal weight and volume when analyzed were significantly different (P 0.01) among age groups within each location, but there was no significant effects of locations (P 0.05) on all those measurements. The scrotal circumference and testicular consistency within each age group was highly correlated to body weight. The scrotal circumference was also highly correlated to either the weight or to the volume of the testis. Their coefficient of correlation (n1
