A experiment was conducted in Kerala (South India) to assess of major pests and diseases on clones of banana. Eighty-seven clones representing various genomic groups viz. AA(7), AB(7), AAA(18), AAB(28), were screened under the natural local conditions. Amongst the AA clones, "Sannachenkadali" was tolerant to rhizome weevil, sigatoka leaf spot and bunchy top virus. In the AB group, "Nialipoovan", "Kunnan" and "Poomkali" were resistant to the pests and diseases studied. In the AAA group, "Manoranjitham" was highly resistant against the leaf spot disease. An AAB clone "Mysore poovan" was highly tolerant to rhizome weevil attack. Clones like"Thiruvananthapuram", "Mysore ethan" and "Padalimoongil" showed moderate multiple resistance to rhizome weevil, sogatoka leaf and banana nematode. In the ABB genomic group, "Jamani" was tolerant to the pests and diseases studied. "Malaimonthan" and "Peykunnan" possess a moderate level of resistance to the rhizome weevil, banana nematode and sigatoka leaf spot.
