The importance of knowledge of biochemical basis of ensiling for designing of procedures at silage making

Diagram illustrating the action of the most important groups of microorganisms was designed on the basis of principles of silage fermentation. The influence of procedures at ensiling (wilting, chopping, packing, covering) on the action of microorganisms and the quality of the silage was commented on the basis of diagram. A review of the effect of additives (acids, lactic acid bacteria inoculants, enzymes and sugars) on fermentation and aerobic stability of silage is given as well.
