The contents of Cu, Zn, Mn, Pb and Cd in cow milk were studied in samples from a clean region of the Sumava Mountains, from two small ecologically loaded locations of South Bohemia, Temelin and Trebon, and from Lany in the vicinity of steel mills and coal mines. The contents determined by AAS were (mg/l): Cu 0.069 - 0.096, Zn 3.955 - 5.051, Fe 0.354 - 0.553, Mn 0.043 - 0.048, Pb 0.018 - 0.031, Cd 0.002 - 0.005. In Temelin the contents of Zn and in Lany of Fe, Pb and Cd were significantly higher. When compared with the hygienic regulations of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic, it was found that in Temelin Zn exceeded in 42.1 % samples, Pb in 2.6 %, in Sumava Mountains Zn in 27.5 %, Cd in 3.1 %, in Trebon Zn in 2.6 %, Pb in 2.6 %, Cd 2.2 %, in Lany Pb in 16.7 %, Cd in 16.7 %.
