Citrus growing in Trinidad and Tobago; basic agricultural studies
1991
Brosh, P.
A basic agricultural study on citrus growing in Trinidad and Tobago was undertaken. The existing situation in terms of area under cultivation, yield, fresh and processed consumption as well as producer input/output was examined. The technological levels and quality of production was also studied. Research and extension in terms of its effectiveness also came under study. The major objective of the project was to develop a modern citrus industry which will exploit the national potential towards the export market. All contributing factors were looked at, that is, propagating material, irrigation, fertilising, proper management, lowering production costs, substitution of root stock with one resistant to Tristeza and the attainment of disease free, superior imported bud-wood.
