Cocoa Production; basic agricultural studies
1991
Raj Kumar, D.
The consultant's paper on cocoa deals with the revitalisation of the cocoa industry. For this to happen components of a technological package should be followed. There must be a careful selecting of planting material. The recommended spacing of 9ft by 9ft should be implemented. This would mean the production of more plants. New planting should be done using minimal shade. Fertility as well as hand pollination, mechanisation, management of soil moisture, drainage, weeds, pests and disease management would also have to be looked at. It is important to have ongoing research and development and an extension service specifically for cocoa.
