Productivity characteristics of poplars of the Aigeiros group in ecological conditions of the Medzibodrozie region in Eastern Slovakia

Productivity characteristics of 20 different clones of poplars of the Aigeiros group were determined in the Leles populetum, situated on medium-heavy uninundated alluvia of the Latorica river in Eastern Slovakia. The results of evaluation show that out of the clones under observation, the best growth and maximum volume production were recorded in I-214, I-476, Blanc du Poitou, Flachslanden and P. nigra. On the other hand, P. nigra and I-455 were considerably lagging behind in these characteristics. Soil cultivation performed on the whole plot had positive effects on poplar growth and productivity. It was demonstrated at the same time that the choice of appropriate clones allowed to grow highly productive poplar plantations also in altered ecological conditions of Eastern Slovakia.
