The effect of impact speed on bean pods damage

The kinematic and dynamic parameters of cutting and collecting mechanisms in harvesting machines greatly influence the quantity lost during beans harvesting. The influence of impact speeds (2.14 - 4.4 m.s-1) on the damage of bean pods was measured. These measurements were done at bean moisture content of 11-12% (w.b), under modelled laboratory conditions. The results showed that it is not advantageous to operate cutting and collecting mechanisms at speeds above 2.8 m.s-1.
