In the first part of this review, recent changes in taxonomy and nomenclature of plant pathogenic prokaryotes are outlined. New genera containing plant pathogens are presented. Species names of bacterial pathogens validated by publication in the International Journal of Systematic Bacteriology are listed. In the second part of this paper, an updated list of valid names and pathovars of plant pathogenic bacteria is given, arranged according to host plants. Only pathogens of economic importance and quarantine organisms are included in this list.
