Efforts to increase root growth and planting success of Hevea marcottes

English. Rubber plant propagation by marcotting was done to avoid the negative effect of rootstock on production. Marcotting is not widely practised since planting success is still unsatisfactory. The objectives of this experiment were: 1. to study the effect of Atonik, Ethrel, the harvesting age of marcotted plants and the combination of using wiltpruf and shading levels on the rooting succes, root growth and on planting success (percent); 2. to compare the field growth of marcotted plants with budded plants. The treatments were diveded into five experiment. In experiment 1, the treatments were the harvesting ages i.e., 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 11 months, respectively. The clone used was GT 1. In experiment 2, the treatments were the concentrations of Ethrel i.e. 0 percent, 1 percent, 2 percent and 4 percent, respectively. Ethrel of 0.3 g was applied to sliced bark of each marcotted branch. The clone used was PR 300. In experiment 3, the treatments were the Atonik concentrations i.e 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 cc Atonik/l water, respectively. Each marcotted branch received 2 cc of Atonik solution and the clone used was RRIM 600. The experiment 1, 2 and 3 were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. In experiment 4, the treatments were arranged in a split plot design of 4 x 2 with three replications. The main plots were shading levels of 0 percent, 25 percent, 50 percent and 75 percent and the subplots were wiltpruf application i.e. wiltpruf 40 percent and control (without wiltpruf). In experiment 5, the treatments were the deep planting namely the trunks of marcotted plants were buried at three depth levels i.e. 15 cm, 30 cm, and 45 cm. The experiments design was a randomized complete block with three replications. Budded plants obtained from the same clone (GT 1) were used as control. The variables observed were rooting success, root growth, planting success in the polybag or in the field and growth of the plant in the field. The results of the experiment showed that planting success after four months' planting into polybag could reach up to 82 percent if the harvesting age was 11 months. The root growth of marcotted plants harvested at the age of six and eight months was similar to that the age of eleven months; but its planting success was still lower (+- 15 percent). Compared with the control, the use of Ethrel 3 percent and 14 cc atonik/l of water increased the number of lateral roots up to 60 percent and 203 percent, and also root dry weight up to 71,4 percent and 203 percent, respectively. Despite the root growth increase by using the two chemicals, the marcot planting succes in polybag was still low. The use of wiltpruf under different shading levels did not increase the planting success in polybag effectively. Generally, until the age of fourteen months in the field, the girth, bark thickness, and the number of latex vessels of marcotted plants were higher than those of budded plants. Perbanyakan karet secara cangkok belum diterapkan secara komersial karena keberhasilan hidup belum memuaskan. Berbagai usaha dilakukan untuk mempertinggi keberhasilan hidup cangkokan di polibeg/lapangan. Suatu penelitian dilakukan untuk 1. mengetahui pengaruh masing-masing perlakuan Atonik, Ethrel, umur panen cangkokan serta kombinasi penggunaan wiltpruf dan tingkat naungan terhadap keberhasilan dan pertumbuhan perakaran serta keberhasilan hidup cangkokan dengan pertumbuhan tanaman hasil okulasi. Berbagai perlakuan dibagi menjadi unit percobaan. Pada percobaan perlakuan ialah umur panen cangkokan yaitu 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 dan 11 bulan dihitung dari sejak pencangkokan. Klon yang digunakan adalah GT 1. Pada percobaan larutan Ethrel dengan perlakukan konsentrasi yaitu masing-masing 0, 1, 2, 3, dan 4 persen, dioleskan ke bidang sayatan sebanyak 0,3 g per cabang. Klon yang digunakan adalah PR 300. Pada percobaan 3, larutan Atonik dengan perlakuan konsentrasi yaitu masing-masing 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 dan 14 cc/l air dioleskan ke bidang sayatan cangkok sebanyak 2 cc per cabang. Klon yang digunakan adalah RRIM 600. Pada percobaan 1, 2 dan 3 rancangan percobaan adalah acak kelompok dengan tiga ulangan. Pada percobaan 4, perlakuan faktorial disusun dalam rancangan petak terpisah dengan tiga ulangan. Naungan sebagai faktor utama yang terdiri dari empat taraf yaitu 0, 25, 50 dan 75 persen dan wiltpruf sebagai anak faktor utama yang terdiri dari dua taraf yaitu perlakuan dimana cangkok diolesi dengan 20 ml larutan wiltpruf 40 persen dan kontrol (tanpa wiltpruf). Klon yang digunakan adalah GT 1. Perlakuan pada percobaan 5 ialah kedalaman penanaman batang di atas titik mulai terbentuknya akar yaitu 15, 30, dan 45 cm. Rancangan percobaan ialah acak kelompok dengan tiga ulangan. Sebagai kontrol digunakan bahan tanam hasil okulasi. Klon yang digunakan adalah GT 1. Peubah-peubah yang diamati ialah keberhasilan dan pertumbuhan perakaran, keberhasilan hidup di polibeg, dan pertumbuhan di lapangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keberhasilan hidup cangkokan di polibeg dapat mencapai 82 persen jika umur panen 11 bulan. Pertumbuhan akar cangkokan yang dipanen pada umur 6 dan 8 bulan sudah menyamai pertumbuhan akar yang dipanen pada umur 11 bulan, tetapi tingkat keberhasilan hidupnya setelah ditanam di polibeg masih rendah (kurang lebih 15 persen). Penggunaan masing-masing Ethrel 3 persen dan Atonik 14 cc/l air dapat meningkatkan jumlah akar lateral cangkokan sebesar 60 persen dan 203 persen, serta meningkatkan berat kering akar lateral cangkokan sebesar 71,4 persen dan 245 persen dibanding kontrol. Walaupun terjadi peningkatan pertumbuhan akar akibat penggunaan kedua zat tersebut, hal ini tidak diikuti oleh peningkatan keberhasilan hidup tanaman cangkok polibeg. Penggunaan wiltpruf pada berbagai tingkat naungan kurang efektif untuk meningkatkan keberhasilan hidup cangkokan di polibeg. Secara umum, sampai dengan umur 14 bulan di lapangan ukuran lilit batang, tebal kulit, dan jumlah pembuluh lateks pada tanaman cangkok adalah lebih besar dibanding tanaman okulasi.
