The characteristics of the breed are described in terms of traits, reproductive performance and growth performance. Comparative pricing is given for Damara, Dorper, Van Rooy and Persian sheep. The Damara sheep breeders' association ascribe the following traits: long tail - broad at the base, short comfortable gait, moveable skin, ears and tail, agile appearance, strong hard teeth, strongly developed herd instinct, long reproductive life , strong mother instinct and high fertility.
