The ZERI concept is : no liquid, gaseous nor solid waste. All inputs are used in production. When waste occurs it is used to create value by other industries, and to create jobs. Applications of this concept are described in the proceedings. These include mushroom and earthworm production from byproducts, fish polyculture, salicornia production, urban agriculture, seaweed farming and an investigation into the potential rather than the threat of the water hyacinth.
