Analysis of farming systems in the regions of Omusati, Oshana, Ohangwena and Oshikoto

The report is the result of a series of surveys carried out between December 1992 and May 1993 in 15 villages of the 4 regions. The aim was to gather basic data on the socioeconomic context and on local farming systems which was needed to launch the " Rural Development Support Project in Northern Namibia" in 1993. The contents describe the methodology of the surveys, the geographical and historical context, the political and social context, the physical and economic environment of the regions. The main part covers the production systems (crop, livestock and miscellaneous activities) and farming strategies. A list of references and appendices with maps, tables, graphs, rainfall diagrams and other relevant data supplement the text.
