Sorghum and pearl millet research work in Namibia

The article gives a brief description of the National Sorghum and Pearl Millet Improvement Programme (a project of the Directorate of Research and Training of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Rural Development) and reviews the work of this programme which was started with the inception of the programme on pearl millet. The programme presently covers three disciplines, namely agronomy, breeding and entomology, each having its own objectives. Improvement activities on pearl millet, one of Namibia's staple crops, is elaborated on in detail.
